Scienscope Microscopy FAQ
Q: How can I attach an auxiliary lens to my new microscope?A: Attaching an auxiliary lens to your microscope is easy.
A: Simply thread the lens onto the microscope just below the objective.
Q: The fan is running, but the light has gone out in the fiber optic illuminator, what does this mean?
A: This is probably due to the bulb in the light box going out. To fix, simply replace the bulb! (Part #: IL-RA-FB)
Q: How can one determine the real length of an object when using an eye piece with a reticle?
A: To measure the object, simply use this equation: Reticle x Objective Power x Auxiliary Lens Power = Actual Length
Q: How do I calculate the total magnification on a MZ7 Video Inspection System?
A: Total magnification can be measured with: Magnification of Coupler x Magnification of Micro Zoom Lens Range x Magnification of CCD Camera x Magnification of Auxiliary or Objective Lens x Diagonal Length of the Display.
Example:
- Coupler Magnification = 0.5x
- Micro Zoom Lens Range Magnification (.7~4.5) = 4.5x
- CCD Camera Magnification (.5″) = 25.4/8
- Auxiliary Lens Magnification = 1x
- Diagonal Length of Display = 17″
0.5 x 4.5 x (25.4/8) x 1 x 17 = 121.4x Total Magnification.
Q: How do you calculate the magnification of Camera/CCD Format?
A: 1/3″ CCD sensor = 25.4/6
1/2″ CCD sensor = 25.4/8
2/3″ CCD sensor = 25.4/11
Q: How can I calculate the magnification of my new Binocular Microscope System? (SZ, NZ, ELZ)
A: Total Magnification = Magnification of Eye Piece x Magnification of Objective Range / Auxiliary lens.
Example:
- Eye Piece Magnification = 10x
- Objective Range Magnification = .67x
- Auxiliary Lens Magnification = 0.5x
10 x .67 x 0.5 = 3.4x Total Magnification.
Q: How can I calculate the magnification of my new Trinocular Microscope System (SZ and NZ Series)?
A: Total Magnification = Magnification of CCD Camera x Magnification of Video Coupler x Magnification of Objective Range x Magnification of Auxiliary Lens x Diagonal Length of Display.
Example:
- CCD Magnification (1/3″) = 25.4/6
- Video Coupler Magnification = 0.5x
- Objective Range Magnification = .67x
- Auxiliary Lens Magnification = 0.5x
- Monitor Size = 17″
25.4/6 x 0.5 x .67 x 0.5 x 17 = 12.05x Total Magnification
