ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
  1. The Universal Mount (Item 18) may be secured to the bench by using either the C Clamp (Item 20) or by using three screws located in the counter bored holes of the Mount. The Mount is simply a cylindrical base plate, with a vertical stanchion in the center, upon which the column base is placed. You either secure the mount to an edge of your bench with the C clamp, or screw the mount to table at any location. Note: The Mount may be used as a template for the hole positions.
  2. Place the Column Base (Item 19) on top of the Universal Mount (Item 18) then carefully lower the Counter Balanced Stand (Item 15) onto the spigot.
  3. Lightly tighten the Height Friction Clamp (Item 6) and remove the Nut and Washer (Item 2) from the Yaw Spigot (Item 5).
  4. Remove Cover Plate (Item 1) from Head and carefully lower the Mantis over the Yaw Spigot (Item 5).
  5. Replace the Washer and Nut (Item 2), do not lock solid, Head should rotate on the Yaw Spigot (Item 5) with the required degree of friction replace Cover Plate (Item 1).
  6. Screw the chosen Objectives onto the Turret (Item 22).
  7. Connect the low Voltage Plug (Item 12) into the socket on the rear of the head (Item 7).
  8. Check that the Voltage Selector (Item 17) is correctly set then connect to the main supply. The instrument is now ready for use. A regular check should be made to ensure the Cooling Fan is running.

OPERATION

  1. Select the required magnification using the Objective Selection Lever located on left hand side of Head (Item 9).
  2. Position the Viewing Head at a comfortable height and adjust Friction Clamp (Item 6) as required.
  3. Turn on the Supply Switch (Item 14) and hold the subject beneath the Objectives in the optimum position for viewing.
  4. Focusing can be carried out by raising the subject (it hand held) or by moving the Mantis Head up or down.
  5. Adjust the Eye Spacing Control (Item 3) to obtain a comfortable stereo view. Note: That incorrect adjustment can result in inverted stereo. The aim is to obtain good stereo with max head freedom.
  6. The angle of lighting can be altered by rotation of Edge Wheel (Item 11).
